Other Theatre Work
Assisting

I assist other theatre designers doing Modelmaking, Technical Drawing [by hand and on VectorWorks] and Research on a freelance basis.
In the last 2 years I have worked for Es Devlin on a large number of projects including Carmen ENO, Salome ROH, Don Giovanni and Flamen Theater An Der Wein, La Clemenza Di Tito Barcelona, Midsummer Nights Dream and Billy Budd Hamburg.
I have recently been working for Katrina Lindsay on The Sunshine Boys West Yorkshire Playhouse, As You Like It Sheffield Crucible and The Comedy of Errors RSC Tour.

Scenic Painting

As well as painting many of my own shows I have also done scenic painting for shows such as The Fear Engine Global Village Youth Festival [2006], Die Fledermaus Gulbenkian Theatre,Canterbury [2002] and Scapin Gulbenkian Theatre, Canterbury [1999].

Virtual Reality

In 2000 I worked on A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Lumley Studio, Canterbury. This involved constructing several environments using virtual reality [VR] software to use as projections in this ground breaking production. I also operated the live navigation of the VR environments during the show.

Training

2002-03

Motley Theatre Design Course

The Motley Theatre Design Course was based around doing theoretical designs for 7 different projects, each was developed with a professional director for a real space. The course finished with an exhibition at the National Theatre Studio.

In addition to the projects the course included short courses in mask making, fabric dyeing and printing, scenic painting and design for film. Also regular lessons in the cut of period costume, technical drawing, theatre history and model making.

1998-2002

University of Kent at Canterbury

A four year theatre studies degree with a final year specialism in Design for Performance.
